PopulationWelcome to the Shawnee Heights District, home of the Thunderbirds! Students attending Shawnee Heights have a multitude of opportunities in both academics and activities. Advanced placement courses, honors, and dual credit courses complement our extensive academic offerings for students. Shawnee Heights programs also include multiple Career-Technical Education pathways and opportunities to earn certification in a number of career fields. Programs for gifted students and other exceptionalities are available through a comprehensive special education program. The orchestra, band, debate, forensics, and vocal performing groups have won state and national acclaim. Art students not only win competitions but also receive scholarships for further study. Shawnee Heights High School Athletics have also won numerous state and league titles for both girls and boys. In addition to multiple team titles, several individuals have been recognized as champions and named to all-area teams.

Welcome to the USD 501 Topeka High District, home of the Trojans! Topeka High School is a diverse and culturally rich, comprehensive high school with a long history of serving generations of Kansans. They are extremely proud of our academic offerings, including 17 Advanced Placement courses and 10 Honors courses. In addition, this will be the eleventh year of their successful Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program. We are also excited about the Center for International Studies that provide students with the essential 21st Century skill of Global Literacy. Students completing the minimum requirements of the program will receive a special International Studies diploma designation upon graduation. Finally, they offer a multitude of co-curricular and extracurricular activities to meet the talents and interests of our students.

Welcome to the Seaman District, home of the Vikings! The mission statement says, SHS, “Is dedicated to developing in every student life-long skills essential for achieving personal, academic, and occupational success”. To reach this goal, the school offers a comprehensive, challenging curriculum for college bound students including Advanced Placement and Honors classes. They have cooperative agreements with both Washburn Institute of Technology and Allen County Community College at reduced tuition rates for qualified students. In addition, the school offers over 50 sports, clubs, and organizations which provide many opportunities for student participation. Academically, students consistently score above both state and national norms on the ACT and SAT, as well as other national examinations. Over two-thirds of graduates attend colleges from coast to coast.

Welcome to the USD 501 Highland Park District, home of the Scotts! Highland Park High School has been a historical fixture within the Topeka community for decades. With graduates such as astronaut Ron Evans, biochemist Dr. Julius Rebek, Jr., Olympic wrestler Melvin Douglas, and a host of exemplary business people, coaches, educators, and others, our students have many role models to inspire them to “get there from here.” Supported by a School Improvement Grant, they are highly optimistic about our future. Our goals include improved assessment scores, improved community relationships, an enhanced curriculum, and the empowerment of students to utilize their academic resources and achieve their potential.
